How to Join Team 6 July 3, 2008

Joining the UBBT is kind of like spending a year training for your own personal Olympic Games. The events are:

  • your own life;
  • your business;
  • your community;
  • your thinking and ambitions;
  • the way you inspire others;
  • the way you teach the martial arts;
  • and your connection to most proactive group of martial arts teachers and activists in the world.

To join you have to commit to an hour or two of activities a day, you know, like some training, a few minutes of meditation, some reading —all the things that make for a rich, full life. One of the things about testing for an entire 13 month period, is that HUGE accomplishments can be achieved with the smallest daily effort. As a teacher, this is exactly what I want my students to recognize: “See John, look how little things add up! THAT is a lesson in self-defense!”

To join the UBBT you have to be willing to customize your own test, tell everyone around you what you’re up to, and then GO TO IT! You must also join a world-wide group of teachers who are committed to, developing, and implementing new ideas and curriculum in their lives and classes, including:

  • life / testing programs
  • Test journaling
  • Environmental self-defense
  • Diabetes education
  • Anger management teacher training
  • Dietary self-defense education
  • Acts of kindness program
  • Project-based leadership training

Since most of us sell “black belt excellence” in our schools, the reasons to do the UBBT are clearly evident.

What the UBBT brings to the participant is, hands down, the best ideas in testing, curriculum development, community activism, and martial arts teaching in the world. For the school owner who wants his or her own students to make HUGE transformation on all levels, there’s no better way than to SHOW THE WAY.

To join the UBBT:

Note: The lowest monthly tuition rate is $250 a month for UBBT membership. Lowest price for tuition comes, of course, with tuition paid in full. No refunds under ANY circumstances. See coach Tom for terms.

Step No. 1

To join the ubbt you need, first, review the information on the program available on the web, here, and in our PRESS ROOM –including the film made by Nancy Walzog. After doing that you’ll have a better idea of what the program is, for the most part, about.

Step No. 2

Call coach Tom Callos at 530-902-0286 (PST) and talk with him about the UBBT. Some questions you might ask:

  • How will it help you as a person?
  • How will it help you build your school?
  • How do you generate community involvement/education with the UBBT?
  • How should you get your students involved?
  • What are the special events?

Step No. 3

Think about it. Talk it over with your significant other(s). Talk it over with one or more people who have already gone through the program. If it doesn’t call your name, skip it.

Step No. 4

Sit down and have a SERIOUS talk with yourself about the UBBT. There is no quitting under ANY circumstances (and let me name a few: boredom; finances; disconnection; too hard; don’t like your approach; it’s not for me anymore; too busy; got my leg cut off in a farming accident; and so on).

There IS NO QUITTING, so don’t enroll for any reason if quitting is even a remote possibility. Oh, and WORSE than quitting is doing little or nothing.

The UBBT is a national phenomenon, this is an opportunity to make and/or change martial arts history. Anyone should be able to look at our members and recognize what the martial arts does for people –how it builds courage and self-discipline.

If YOU aren’t going to exercise enough courage to move forward when times are tough, then skip it, please. If you aren’t going to demonstrate the self-discipline required to play this game full out and see it through to fruition, then please, pass the UBBT by.

Step No. 5

E-mail coach Tom the following words, “I’m in.” Arrange payment for your membership, register on our member’s only site, and start your journey. The test begins, officially, Jan 1, 2008 –but you can enroll today and begin now (why wait? there’s not extra cost involved).
